Bipolar Disorder Treatment

Bipolar Disorder Treatment

I want to say in the beginning, I am only speaking from my own experience. I AM NOT a doctor. If you are feeling suicidal, here is a link to a suicide hotline.

In my experience, my bipolar disorder treatment consists of 3 things. Not necessarily in this order.

1st, I check in with a psychologist once every month or two. When I was first diagnosed it was once a week. You can do this as often as needed. It just helps you to see what your triggers are, and get a handle on things. Remember, you just found out your BIPOLAR! (I know, I thought it was the end of the world) Being Bipolar is not too bad. I have actually found at some times it is a blessing in disguise.

2 – See a Psychiatrist – For the first year, if you are anything like me, you will probably have a tough time finding the right medicine that will work for you. The Psychiatrist will prescribe one, you’ll test it out for a month or two and then see if that brings you to an even level. It’s a very frusterating process. After you find the right mix, hopefully you only have to meet up every few months.

3 – The 3rd – and in my opinion most important thing in your Bipolar Disorder Treatment is Keeping and eye on your TRIGGERS. Keep a journal and note which days you are up and which you are down. What made you that way? Is it seasonal? When you see your family? Do fights depress or elevate you? Keep a note and look for a pattern.

And of course, try to have a good support system. They can tell you when things are off. They will notice lots of things that you can’t see.

Below I listed a few books that I read when I was first diagnosed. Check them out if you like, or don’t if you don’t want to. They helped me out a lot. They also help family members of someone that is dealing with bipolar disorder.
